Church Plant: Anchor Community Church

The English congregation of FECDB (college and up) is planting a new church called Anchor Community Church which will meet at Walnut Elementary School starting in the fall of 2017.  We invite you to consider joining our launch team for this new church.

In the fall of 2016, after much prayer and discussion with leaders in all congregations, we sensed that God was calling us to this next phase of our English congregation.  God has been faithful in building up our congregation up to this point, but as we looked out at our community, we began to dream about how we could better reach out to those who are currently unconnected to any church.  We see many who, though externally prosperous, are struggling to find meaning and identity amidst the many pressures of career, school, family, relationships and a tumultuous political climate.  We also firmly believe that there is great power in the gospel of Jesus, and that he offers us much more than good morals and a ticket to heaven.  Rather, he is the sure and steadfast anchor for the soul (Hebrews 6:19), giving us a new identity that can root us in the storms of life.  We dream of young families, young adults, and college students who are unconnected to church coming to find this anchor for their souls.

In order to better reach out to our community, which includes non-Chinese Asian-Americans and non-Asians, we plan to move out from our current location in our Chinese church to a new location to plant an independent English-speaking church. This move will force us to be more intentional about evangelism and take responsibility for our finances. However, our goal is to continue to partner with the Chinese congregation at FECDB for children’s and youth ministry. Therefore, we will continue to support the children’s and youth ministry at FECDB, while planting the English congregation (college and up) across the street. We believe this plan allows us the freedom and flexibility to reach our generation and culture, but also maintains the connection with the Chinese congregation, as we support ministry to the 2nd generation in the children and youth.  We are so grateful to Pastor Wong (FECDB’s Senior Pastor), the Board of Directors and the FECA Church Planting Committee for supporting our vision. There are many details to be worked out, so please pray for us as we continue to pray and prepare for this move.
